John W. Malenda
Ledyard, CT

Painting for over 50 years Malenda has studied with John Laurent of the University of New Hampshire, the world-renowned artists and teachers, Leonard Wren of Lopez Island, WA and Tulsa, OK, with Foster Caddell of Voluntown, CT and with Sarah Lucas of Mystic, CT.
He has had paintings in juried shows at the Slater Gallery, the Lyme Art Association, the Mystic Arts Center and the Artists’ Cooperative Gallery of Westerly. He is a frequent contributor to humanitarian auctions.
Malenda has participated in numerous art shows in Connecticut and his art is sold in two shops in Montego Bay and Runaway Bay in Jamaica where he visits and paints every winter.
He has participated in Boats, Books and Brushes in New London.
His work in on display continuously at Simply Pearls in Westbrook, CT. He had the largest single-person show ever at the HOXIE GALLERY in Westerly, RI in 2008 with 140 of his paintings displayed.
His painting, “BLACK NIGHT” won a Second Place Award at the Mystic Arts Center.
He has been a judge at the 50th MYSTIC OUTDOOR ART FESTIVAL and again in 2009 (52nd) and 2011 (53rd).
Primarily an oil painter of landscape and seascapes, he paints in acrylic and watercolors while traveling.
He also paints abstract realism; paintings which he feels must incorporate harmony of theme, color and pattern rather than random application of paint; realism reduced to its fundamental elements.
